The exodus of Athenians and many tourists for the Holy Spirit three-day weekend has already begun, with ferries from the port of Piraeus departing at full capacity. Local thunderstorms are expected this afternoon in Macedonia (mainly in the eastern areas) and the mountainous regions of Epirus.
Holy Spirit 2025: The Weekend Getaway Begins
Since early Friday morning (June 6), travelers have begun leaving Athens for the long weekend of the Holy Spirit holiday. Many are fleeing Attica, with ferries departing Piraeus fully booked.
Most travelers are heading to the Cycladic islands, including many tourists, taking advantage of the good weather. Paros and Naxos are among the most popular destinations.
However, meteorologists warn of exceptions. Local thunderstorms are expected this afternoon in Macedonia – especially in the eastern regions – as well as in the mountains of Epirus, Thessaly, Thrace, and Central Greece. These phenomena are part of the general atmospheric instability observed in mainland areas in recent days.
