US President Donald Trump said yesterday (Friday) that a decision on the next head of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will be announced soon.
“It will be announced very soon,” Trump told reporters accompanying him on the presidential aircraft (Air Force One), arguing that a good Fed chief would cut interest rates.
Asked specifically about Kevin Wear, who served on the Fed board from 2006 to 2011, Trump commented that he is “highly regarded.” Wears is reportedly among the frontrunners for Trump’s choice of the next Fed chairman.
Yesterday, Friday, Trump reiterated his position that the U.S. central bank should cut interest rates by one point, criticizing current Fed chief Jerome Powell for being significantly late in lowering borrowing costs.
The two men came face-to-face last week, with Trump telling Powell that he made a “mistake” in not cutting interest rates.
