Basket League: Fournier and Nunn cleared to play in game 4 for Olympiacos and Panathinaikos

Despite incidents in Game 3, the sports judge ruled there is no reason to suspend either player — heavy fines imposed on both teams

The Sports Judge of ESAKE has issued penalties following the events of Game 3 of the Basket League Finals between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, held on Friday, June 6 at OAKA, along with the official complaints submitted by both clubs.

It was decided that neither Kendrick Nunn nor Evan Fournier would be suspended, allowing them to play in Game 4 of the Finals today.

The decision regarding Fournier has sparked backlash, particularly from Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos.

Game 3 Incidents:

  • Fournier made an obscene gesture toward Panathinaikos fans.
  • Fans stormed the court, threw objects including an advertising sign.
  • Nunn confronted a referee aggressively, pointing a finger in his face while protesting a call.

  1. Evan Fournier: €30,000 fine and formal reprimand for obscene gesture during the 4th quarter.
  2. Coach Giorgos Bartzokas: €3,000 fine and reprimand for derogatory comment to a referee referencing the opponent’s owner.
  3. Executive Nikos Lepeniotis: €10,000 fine, formal reprimand, and mandatory retraction of post-game defamatory statements within 10 days.
  4. Olympiacos (club as entity): €10,000 fine for Lepeniotis’s comments.

Panathinaikos (Club and Player):

  1. Panathinaikos Club:
    • €1,500 for general insulting chants.
    • €1,400 for each warning over chants targeting individuals.
    • €2,000 for violating banner rules.
    • €10,000 for fans entering the court.
    • €15,000 for limited incidents (e.g., sign thrown, water directed at opposing players).
    • €10,000 for court-side seat holders insulting the opposing coach.
    • €30,000 and a formal reprimand for defamatory social media content post-game.
  2. Kendrick Nunn: €10,000 fine and reprimand for insulting and threatening a referee during the match.

These decisions aim to maintain the integrity of the sport while acknowledging misconduct without disrupting the competitive flow of the championship finals.
