Mrs Maria Karystianou has come to Parliament to submit a petition accompanied by signatures of 1.3 million citizens for the revision of the Constitution and the abolition of the provisions on the criminal treatment of ministers and MPs.
She and her entourage even observed a minute’s silence on her way to parliament and outside the entrance to the parliament, in memory of the victims of the Tempi tragedy.
The president of the Victims’ Families Association, in a conversation with reporters, said: “We want impunity to end. We are waiting to see what the parliament will do with our request.”
Ms. Karystianou had announced the submission of the petition to parliament in a post, writing:
“July 7, 2025, marks the restoration of democracy in Greece.
The text of the petition stated.
On Monday, 07.07.2025, we submit to the Parliament the one million three hundred thousand (1,300,000) signatures collected for the revision of the Constitution and the abolition of the immunity of politicians for their criminal responsibilities.
The impunity of Politicians is not by morality, the law or democracy.
It is abundantly clear that they will not control their huge criminal responsibilities (Tempe, OPEKEPE, and how many other scandals that are still buried and need to be brought to light). We are being fooled!
That is why we, the CITIZENS, must become active for the common good and for JUSTICE to finally come to the country! To get back the OXYGEN that belongs to us!
