The European Union has reached an agreement with Israel to improve humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip. The agreement includes an increase in humanitarian aid trucks and the opening of supply crossing points.
“These measures will be implemented in the coming days, with the common understanding that large-scale aid must be delivered directly to the population and that measures will continue to be taken to ensure that it is not diverted to Hamas,” Kaja Kallas‘ statement specified.
The development is expected to improve the dramatic food and fuel shortages, as Bloomberg reports that bakeries and public kitchens will reopen and fuel deliveries for humanitarian facilities are expected to resume.
It remains unclear at this time under which institutions or structures the humanitarian expansion will be implemented, and details of how safe access to the new corridors will be ensured.
