In the video, the athletes’ attempts to reach the father and daughter, who had been swept away by the currents and strong winds, can be seen, and when they succeed, they are given a board to grab onto until extra help arrives. The local hunting club immediately rushed in with a boat, which was alerted by the coastguard to intervene and then members of the coastguard, the ambulance and the police continued the chain rescueof the two people, who made it safely to shore.

“My hero spotted and rescued a tourist father and his 10-year-old daughter who were swept away by the current off Thermaikos,” the athlete’s father wrote on Facebook, posting the video.

Facebook of the event was posted by his father, who also posted a video of the incident.
