Industrialist Andreas Kramvis joins the Hellenic Initiatives’ (THI) Board

Cyprus-raised business leader brings multi-industry expertise and energy to THI

Newsroom August 4 02:36

Andreas C. Kramvis has joined the Board of Directors of The Hellenic Initiative (THI). He has served as CEO of several multi-national businesses in the Industrial, Electronics, Chemical and Oil Sectors and retired from Honeywell International, a $38 billion multi-industry Company, as Vice Chairman.

Founded in 2012, THI is the only global non-profit organization that unites Greeks around the world around philanthropy through investing in the future of Greece. Since its founding, THI has raised more than $38 million and has grown to be the largest Greek Diaspora organization in the world.

Kramvis is the latest distinguished industrialist bringing experience and insights as well as passion for excellence and Hellenism to THI’s mission of helping to build a New Greece. Besides philanthropy, THI programs contribute to supporting economic development, especially job creation and broader opportunities, some of which activities Kramvis already undertakes in a personal capacity.

Kramvis is known for effecting major company turnarounds and for introducing leading edge technologies. He is the recipient of the 2017 Society of Chemical Industry Medal partly for his leadership in the introduction of low global warming refrigerants currently in use worldwide.

He has also served as an Operating Partner with AEA Investors, a New York private equity firm, and has earlier worked in venture capital. Kramvis currently serves as Advisor and Board Member to several companies. An author on management, in his book ‘Transforming the Corporation: Running a Business in the 21st Century’, he describes how to systematically transform a business for high performance.

Kramvis grew up in Cyprus and studied and worked in the UK before moving to the United States. He is a graduate of Cambridge University in Engineering with a specialization in Electronics and holds an MBA from the Manchester Business School. He and his wife Shirley met while at Cambridge, have three grown-up children and they currently reside in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Together they co-chair the Andreas and Shirley Kramvis Foundation which supports various philanthropic causes including many in Greece and Cyprus.

When Kramvis presented a lecture on his book to the Greek American Chamber of Commerce and the Association for Corporate Growth he emphasized that “you must train people to think positively about the future” – a philosophy THI is working to convey to the people of Greece, especially its youth.
George P. Stamas, THI’s Board President, stated: “Known for effecting major company turnarounds, Andreas Kramvis is the perfect addition to our continuing efforts to turn around Greece and build a brighter future for its people. Along with his expertise in technology and venture capital, the guidance he can offer our Board and Greece’s talented and energetic startup leaders is invaluable.”

Andrew N. Liveris, THI’s Board Chairman, stated: “I welcome Andreas Kramvis’ optimism, which is reputed to be founded on clear thinking and the appreciation of human resources. His deep respect for facts and logic – and an even more profound respect for people – will inspire us all.”
