A hand grenade caused the explosion at a health food store in Agios Panteleimon shortly after midnight that resulted in two people being injured.
The shop is a hookah cafe located on Admitou Street.
The injured, according to ERT, are two Romanians aged 42 and 39 and were the only patrons inside the shop. The two men sustained minor injuries to their leg and arm respectively and were taken to the hospital for first aid.
However, they are expected to give evidence about the incident later in the day.
The case is being handled by the Greek FBI’s racketeering division as it is possible that the attack was carried out over personal disputes.
“It was quite a loud explosion,” said this witness.
The explosion was low-powered and there was no significant damage to the cafe, while the road was blocked off from the junction with Parasiou after the explosion. A team of the TEEM went to the scene to clarify the cause of the explosion, as well as a large police force.
