With Alternative for Germany (AfD) as the first party and satisfaction with the chancellor’s work at its lowest point since his election, the 100 days of the governing coalition are completed.

According to the latest poll by the Forsa Institute on behalf of RTL and n-tv, the AfD leads with 26%, with the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) narrowing to second place with 24% and the SPD with the Green Party securing 13% each. The left follows with 11%, while the abstention and undecided voter rate is recorded at 25%, significantly higher than the abstention rate in the last federal election (17.9%).

Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s approval rating has also taken a big hit, with the percentage at an all-time low. Only 29% of respondents are satisfied with his work (-3). At the same time, dissatisfaction with his work reaches 67% (+3).

However, the respondents’ prediction about the coalition government’s durability also seems ominous. Only 52% believe that the current coalition of CDU/CSU and SPD will last until the end of the legislative term in spring 2029. 43%, however, believe that the coalition will collapse prematurely.
