Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un discussed the Russian president’s upcoming meeting with Donald Trump in a phone conversation yesterday, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
“The Russian president also shared with Kim Jong Un information about his upcoming talks with U.S. President Donald Trump,” the Kremlin press service said, as reported by TASS.
During the conversation, Putin thanked Kim for Pyongyang’s support in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“The Russian president once again expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, as well as for the courage, heroism, and spirit of self-sacrifice demonstrated by the soldiers of the Korean People’s Army during the liberation of Kursk, a part of Russian territory,” North Korea’s state news agency KCNA reported.
North Korea supports Russia in its war against Ukraine by sending troops and supplying weapons to bolster its efforts. According to Ukrainian intelligence estimates, North Korea is expected to send up to 35,000 additional soldiers to fight alongside Russia, tripling the number of troops already deployed.
