Weather: September kicks off with warmth and no rain

September will start with good weather and heat with the mercury in the coming days being 4 to 6 degrees above the country’s climatic data, according to a post by George Tsatrafillas.

The Alpha meteorologist notes that “combined with the warmest sea this season, the weather will be ideal for the last baths, while Wednesday 3/9/25 will be the hottest day of the week with the mercury flirting with 38 degrees in Thessaly, Fthiotida and Boeotia and 36-37 in Crete, the Dodecanese, the Peloponnese and central Macedonia. In Attica with 35-36 degrees and 32-33 in Thessaloniki.”

Relatively high temperatures were recorded in the country on Sunday, 31/08, with highs exceeding 37°C locally. According to the network of meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens automatic weather stations, the highest maximum temperature was recorded in Stylida, Fthiotida and Argos. The map in the image below shows the distribution of the maximum temperature in the country and the 8 stations with the highest maximum temperatures. As can be seen from the rest of the information presented in the image, the temperature exceeded 35 °C at 29 of the 537 currently active stations.

Today’s weather

The whole country will be sunny with only a few local clouds.

The temperature will range in Western Macedonia from 12 to 28 degrees, in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace from 15 to 32-33 degrees, in Central Greece from 16 to 32-34 degrees, in Epirus from 16 to 29 degrees, in the rest of the mainland from 18 to 32-34 and locally in the east up to 35 degrees Celsius, in the Ionian Islands from 17 to 29 degrees, in the Aegean islands and Crete from 17 to 29-31 degrees, while locally in the East Aegean islands the maximum will reach 33-34 degrees Celsius.

The winds in the Western Aegean and Ionian Sea will blow from northwestern directions with intensities up to 5 Beaufort, in the Southern Aegean, prevail westerly winds with the same intensities, while in the rest of the Aegean, light winds of various directions will blow. A westerly current with intensities of up to 5 Beaufort will prevail in the Corinthian Gulf.

In the prefecture of Attica and the city of Athens, we expect sunshine with some local clouds. The winds will blow from northwestern directions with intensities of 4-5 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 24 to 33-35 degrees Celsius.

In Thessaloniki, we expect sunshine. The winds will blow from northwestern directions with intensities of 3-5 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 22 to 33 degrees.

The weather on Tuesday, September 2

Generally clear weather.

Winds will blow north-northwest 3 to 5 Beaufort, and in the eastern Aegean Sea locally up to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will rise slightly. It will reach 32 to 34 degrees Celsius in the western and northern mainland, 34 to 36 degrees Celsius in the rest of the mainland and 30 to 32 degrees Celsius on the islands.

The weather on Wednesday, September 3

In the north, initially, generally clear weather, but from midday in Epirus and western Macedonia and from midday in central and eastern Macedonia, clouds will develop and local showers and occasional thunderstorms will occur. In the late afternoon, the phenomena in Epirus and eastern Macedonia will stop. In the rest of the country, generally clear weather with occasional clouds in the afternoon in the continental highlands, when local rain or isolated thunderstorms will occur.

The winds will blow from the north from 3 to 5 Beaufort and in the sea locally up to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will not change significantly.

The weather on Thursday, September 4

In western and central Macedonia a few clouds, partly cloudy with local rain or rain and in the morning hours, isolated thunderstorms. The phenomena will stop in the afternoon. In the rest of the country almost clear weather with occasional clouds at noon – afternoon in the mainland, mainly in the mountains, when local rain or isolated thunderstorms will occur. Visibility in the morning in the west will be locally limited.

Winds will blow from the north from 3 to 5 Beaufort, and in the sea locally up to 6 Beaufort.

The temperature will drop slightly.
