The Municipality of Athens has granted the building of the Old National Printing House to the Council of State (ΣτΕ), as announced today during a joint press conference at Athens City Hall by Mayor Haris Doukas and the President of Greece’s Supreme Administrative Court, Michail Pikramenos.

The historic building, located at the corner of Stadiou and Santaroza streets, will now house the Council of State in order to meet its accommodation needs and accelerate the administration of justice.

During the press conference, Mayor Doukas emphasized that the handover serves the public interest:
“From the moment we have the ability, the Municipality of Athens will do everything possible to help speed up the administration of justice. According to data, the Council of State reduced its pending cases by 8.4%. However, more momentum is needed. I believe this decision will contribute in that direction, supporting both the institution of Justice and its smooth functioning.”

For his part, Council of State President Michail Pikramenos thanked Mayor Doukas for his institutional responsibility and cooperation, as well as Justice Minister Georgios Floridis, Deputy Minister of Justice Giannis Bougas, and Secretary General Pelopas Laskos.

He stressed:
“Today is particularly significant not only for the Council of State but for the institution of Justice overall. It marks the culmination of efforts that began back in 2006. The Municipality’s decision is not just generous—it is institutionally sound, historically symbolic, and functionally necessary. This move enhances the Court’s operational capacity, ensuring Justice is administered in dignified conditions worthy of its standing. At the same time, a historic building in the heart of Athens is utilized in a way consistent with its institutional legacy and historical character, while the creation of a ‘Justice Park’—welcoming to residents, citizens, and visitors—will decisively contribute to upgrading and showcasing the city center.”
