NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte today backed statements made this week by U.S. President Donald Trump that NATO member countries should shoot down Russian drones and planes if they enter their airspace if such a move is necessary.

“If necessary. I totally agree with President Trump: if it’s necessary,” Rutte said in an interview on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

He further added that NATO militaries are trained to assess such threats and determine whether they can escort Russian planes off allied territory or take further action.
