A man swam more than 13 hours, covering a distance of 41 kilometres, from Nei Poros to Beach Katerini, wanting in this way to highlight the tourist Pieria and to raise awareness about safety on the coast.
The reason for the coach swimming of the Katerini Swimming Club “Poseidon – Swimming”, Giorgos Papadopoulos, swam against the waves for a total of 810 minutes, which highlighted the natural beauty of the region, but also the continuous lifeguard coverage and safety that the beaches of Pieria have.

The water marathon was held last Sunday (21/9), with the discreet but decisive support of Dimitris Lambrou’s Lifeguard Patrol, as emphasized. Meanwhile, the swimming coach was welcomed today at his office by the mayor of Katerini, Ioannis Doumos.
Mr. Doumos warmly congratulated the swimmer, stressing that it is an act “that proves that love for the place and passion for the sea can inspire and unite the entire local community.”

For his part, Papadopoulos stressed that “every kilometre was dedicated to our coastline and its safety“. At the same time, he thanked both the municipal authority and all those who stood by his side in this marine venture.
