Bad weather with heavy rains, thunderstorms, and local hailstorms is expected to affect the eastern parts of the country until the afternoon, according to the updated Emergency Weather Bulletin issued today by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).
More specifically, the intense weather phenomena will affect:
a. Until the early morning hours of Friday: Central Macedonia and the northernmost Cyclades islands.
b. Until midday: Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the islands of the Eastern Aegean.
c. From the morning until the afternoon of Friday: The Dodecanese (especially the Kastellorizo area, until the evening).

The weather phenomena will be particularly intense and pose a greater risk:
a. In eastern Central Macedonia (regional units of Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, Serres) until the early morning hours.
b. In Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the Eastern Aegean islands until midday.
c. In the Dodecanese, from Friday morning until the afternoon.
Emergency 112 Alert for Heavy Rain and Storms in Thessaloniki, Serres, Halkidiki, and Lemnos
112 sent out an alert last night to residents in Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, as well as Serres and Lemnos, warning them of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The message urged residents to be cautious during their movements.
“Warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the regional units of Thessaloniki, Halkidiki, and Serres from the evening hours of 2/10/2025 to midday of 3/10/2025. Be cautious in your movements. Follow the instructions of the Authorities,” the message said.
The Storm Front Moves Eastward
The bad weather system is moving toward the eastern parts of the country and will affect Thrace, the Northern Aegean, the Eastern Aegean, and the Dodecanese.

Schools Closed in Rhodes and Zakynthos
Due to the severe weather, the municipality of Rhodes has announced that schools on the island will be closed. Schools will also be closed in Zakynthos.
Flooding in Aetoliko
The weather caused problems in Aetoliko, where many roads were flooded, and water entered homes. Firefighters rescued elderly women from their house on the eastern side of Aetoliko. Meanwhile, the Fire Service pumped water from basements in Katochi, Aetoloakarnania, following heavy rainfall.
Tree Uprooted and Injures Pedestrian in Athens
Meanwhile, it rained for several hours across parts of Attica, and in central Athens on Emmanouil Benaki Street, a tree was uprooted, seriously injuring a pedestrian.
Photos from the scene show the man lying in the street, while the trunk of the tree fell onto a car, preventing a worse outcome. The man was seriously injured, and EMS (EKAB) arrived on the scene to take him to the hospital.
Over 80 Calls to the Fire Department
The Fire Service Operations Center received dozens of calls during the heavy rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms on Thursday. According to the Fire Department:
- In Attica: 29 calls – responded to 8 water pump-outs and 10 tree removals.
- In Aetoloakarnania: 30 calls – 8 water pump-outs, 4 tree removals, and 3 object removals.
- In Messinia: 8 calls – 3 water pump-outs.
- In Epirus (Preveza and Arta): 15 calls – 6 water pump-outs and 5 tree removals.
