Newsroom October 6 11:46

The 27 Greek activist members of the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza, detained since last Thursday by Israeli authorities after the interception of the ships, are returning to Athens today.

According to a statement issued by the Greek Foreign Ministry on Sunday afternoon, the Greek detainees are expected to be released today and, on the instructions of Minister George Gerapetritis, a special flight will be operated to the nearby Eilat-Ramon International Airport to pick them up and return them safely to Athens on the same day.

The Foreign Ministry’s announcement:

“A delegation of the Embassy of Greece in Tel Aviv, headed by the Ambassador of Greece to Israel, visited today, Sunday, October 5, the detention center where the 27 Greek citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla are being held. All are in good health and are being provided with all necessary support.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Greece in Tel Aviv are in constant communication with all levels of the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s administration in order to ensure that the repatriation procedures can be carried out immediately.
