09/10/2025 22:50

Greece better but goalless in the first half (0-0)

09/10/2025 22:48
Greece was the better side in the first half, dominating the match against Scotland.

They came very close to scoring, especially with a huge missed opportunity by Pavlidis in the 8th minute, when he narrowly missed connecting with a sharp ball across the box by Bakasetas. Overall, Greece posed more of a threat than the Scots, maintaining control of the game.

However, the main issue remains finishing, as well as composure in the final decision-making. Greece needs to make better choices in and around the box to convert their dominance into a goal and take the lead.

09/10/2025 22:37
Halftime: Scotland – Greece 0-0

[No significant events recorded]

09/10/2025 22:25
34′ Yellow card to Kourbelis.

33rd minute: Greece tests Scotland’s defense once again. Pavlidis found space and took a shot from outside the box. Although it was on target, it was manageable, with goalkeeper Gunn making a comfortable save.

Greece continues to look for the goal that will give them the lead.

09/10/2025 22:22
As the match enters the 30th minute, the tempo remains low, with few chances in front of either goal.

Nonetheless, the Greek national team is in control, moving the ball around and trying to find openings in Scotland’s defense. Pavlidis’ big chance in the 8th minute remains the most dangerous moment so far.

09/10/2025 22:06
14′ Tsimikas takes a shot after the hosts cleared the ball — it goes wide.

09/10/2025 22:03
14′ Bakasetas shoots, but the ball hits a defender — corner for Greece.

09/10/2025 22:02
8′ Bakasetas and Tzolis combined beautifully, with the captain delivering a razor-sharp low cross into the box. Unfortunately, Pavlidis missed making contact by inches, wasting a golden chance to make it 0–1.

Just in the 2nd minute of the match, Greece tried to threaten!

Masouras attempted a cross from the right into the box. The ball ended up with Scotland’s Hickey, who chest-passed it back to his goalkeeper, Gunn, under pressure from Tzolis.

Matches Against the Scots

Tonight marks the fifth encounter between the Greek national team and Scotland. So far, the two sides are evenly matched, with two wins each—one home and one away per team. Greece won the first and most recent match (prior to tonight), while Scotland prevailed in the second encounter and again in the third, at Faliro, with a harshly awarded penalty converted by McTominay.

Here is the full head-to-head record:

  • Nations League Playoffs – 23/03/2025: Scotland 0–3 Greece
  • Nations League Playoffs – 20/03/2025: Greece 0–1 Scotland
  • EURO 1996 Qualifiers – 16/08/1995: Scotland 1–0 Greece
  • EURO 1996 Qualifiers – 18/12/1994: Greece 1–0 Scotland

09/10/2025 – 20:56

Scotland’s Starting XI:

Gunn, Souttar, Hanley, Hickey, Robertson, Ferguson, McTominay, McGinn, Doak, Christie, Adams.

If Greece fails to win, it will face major difficulties in overtaking Denmark in the group standings. In that case, avoiding defeat at Hampden Park becomes critical, as second place secures another chance via the March 2026 playoffs.
