The European Drone Wall, Cyprus, Barak MX and the air defence of tomorrow

Air defence comes back into Europe's focus due to Ukraine and drone threats - Greece is considering Barak MX, seeking to strengthen the "Achilles Shield" - Growing international interest, from Cyprus and Greece to Denmark and Slovakia for the system

Newsroom October 9 09:49

The air defence debate has returned strongly to Europe, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the growing threat from drones and missiles. It has now emerged as a top priority for European countries, following the escalation of asymmetric threats.

Besides, the idea of a European “drone wall” of a network of sensors, detection systems and neutralization means to shield is now being promoted at a high level of political and military planning.

At the recent informal meeting of EU member state leaders, the creation of a coordinated shield against unwanted UAVs was set as a priority, following repeated violations and recordings of drones over European territory.
