The vision that combines social responsibility and environmental innovation

L'Oréal turns knowledge and innovation into actions that strengthen societies, protect the planet and create a positive impact for all

Newsroom October 9 10:34

The world around us is in need of organizations that are not content with hitting the numbers, but add value to our lives, foster trusting relationships and inspire hope for tomorrow. Because true progress is not just measured in profits, but in smiles, in opportunities given, in communities made stronger. Through this philosophy, the L’Oréal Group has forged its own path by putting people, inclusion and sustainability at its heart, while opening up new horizons through science and innovation.

All about man and society
At L’Oréal, success comes first from its people. The company has created a work environment that embraces diversity in all its forms: from cultural and socio-economic diversity to gender equality and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ communities. It creates 25,000 employment opportunities for young people under 30, nurturing the talent and future of the next generation. Today, 54% of leadership positions are held by women, 16% of employees are over 50 years old, and for more than 30 years, it has been a leader in disability inclusion.

As part of its people-centered philosophy, it continuously empowers people in need. Through the L’Oréal Fund for Women and the L’Oréal Foundation, it supports women in vulnerable social and economic circumstances, promotes their education and leadership and sets ambitious goals by 2030, targeting 100,000 employment opportunities for vulnerable groups, 5 million women empowered through actions and 10 million people benefiting from the brands’ social programmes.

In Greece, the Group’s brands are implementing actions with real impact across society, which the public enthusiastically embraces. Indicatively, Maybelline supports mental health through Brave Together, L’Oréal Paris educates against street harassment with Stand Up, Garnier organizes beach clean-ups with Green Beauty, while La Roche-Posay, Lancôme, YSL Beauty, and L’Oréal Professionnel are developing targeted programmes for health, education, anti-violence and social solidarity.

A particularly important institution is the L’Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science programme, which has supported 3,900 women scientists since its launch in 1998. In Greece, since 2006, it has supported 35 women scientists, boosting their work and careers. The Greek Awards are part of a global initiative to reduce the perception that scientific research is a field in which men predominantly excel.

The ambitious strategy for the environment
The same commitment is reflected in the way the Group also acts on the environment. With the L’Oréal for the Future programme and strategic goals up to 2030, the company is setting the bar high by focusing on three important areas
.
In the area of Climate Transition, it is pursuing 100% use of renewable energy in facilities and stores, a 57% reduction in GHG emissions and 28% less GHG emissions from procurement, business travel, product and material transportation.

For Preservation of Nature, it wants to achieve 90% of organic materials in formulas and packaging to come from sustainable sources and 75% of ingredients to be from natural or recycled sources. In addition, it aims for 100% recycled or reused water in industrial facilities, the development of water-saving products for water-scarce areas and the regeneration of more land from the company’s ecological footprint.
In the Cycle Economy sector, it aspires to achieve 50% of packaging from virgin plastic and 50% from recycled or organic sources.

L’Oréal’s systematic action to protect the environment is recognised internationally, winning several awards. In 2025, it even received for the ninth consecutive year the highest“Triple A” rating from the CDP for climate change mitigation, forest protection and water resource management – a unique global achievement. The distinction is based on a rigorous assessment of transparency, risks and objectives and highlights the strategic integration of sustainability into the Group’s business model.

“The most innovative company in Europe”
All these initiatives demonstrate that L’Oréal does not limit itself to creating beauty products, but actively cultivates relationships of trust and solidarity with society. At the same time, with the same passion that supports people and communities, it invests in science and technology, putting innovation at the heart of its mission.

As a result, responsibility is combined with innovation: in 2025, it was named by Fortune as the most innovative company in Europe, confirming its position at the forefront of beauty tech. From the development of longevity and bio-diagnostic technologies, to revolutionary devices such as Colorsonic and AirLight Pro, the company is investing in solutions that improve everyday life, reduce energy and water consumption, and redefine the beauty experience.

The L’Oréal story shows that true progress is the result of dedication to people, care for the environment, support for communities, and a belief in the power of science and innovation. And all with one goal: to actively contribute to creating a sustainable, just, and beautiful world.
