During an inspection of a truck at the Evzones border crossing in Kilkis, authorities discovered ten Chinese migrants hidden among cargo pallets. The 47-year-old Serbian driver was arrested on the spot.
According to police reports, the driver had concealed nine men and one woman in the back of the truck, intending to transport them illegally to Thessaloniki. The vehicle entered Greek territory yesterday at noon via the Evzones border station, where it was stopped by police and customs officers.
The investigation revealed that the Chinese nationals lacked travel documents allowing legal stay in Greece. It appears they had flown into Serbia, where they were picked up by the Serbian trafficker, whose plan was to smuggle them into Greece.
The detainee faces charges filed by the Agios Athanasios Migration Management Department and will be brought before the competent prosecutor.
Authorities seized the truck, a mobile phone, and €400 in cash as evidence.
