Six arrested for the attack on Voridis by the “Evangelismos” squat in Crete that was cleared – See what was found (updated)

The operation took place a few days after the attack against Makis Voridis

Newsroom October 31 09:32

Heraklion, Crete – Makis Voridis was targeted in a violent attack on Saturday evening while dining with his family and friends at a restaurant in central Heraklion.

According to witnesses, approximately 25 individuals wearing hoods and helmets gathered outside the restaurant, throwing eggs at Voridis, shouting insults, and chanting slogans against him. The assailants also caused property damage to the restaurant before fleeing in an unknown direction. Voridis’ family and friends were escorted from the scene safely with police assistance.

In a statement following the incident, Voridis described the attackers as “far-left hooligans” and said the assault was “completely unprovoked.” He emphasized that the attackers showed no regard for his family, including his 12-year-old daughter, or for other diners present at the restaurant. Voridis added: “Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go to eradicate far-left violence.”

Police Operation at “Evangelismos” Squat

In the wake of the attack, Greek police conducted a raid early Friday morning at the “Evangelismos” squat in Heraklion, which has been linked to the assailants. The operation began at 04:30 local time and resulted in the arrest of six individuals. Strong police presence continues to block the city center and surrounding areas during the investigation.

Authorities have confirmed that the arrested individuals were connected to the recently cleared squat, and details of what was seized during the operation have been released.

The attack and subsequent police action have sparked public debate about far-left extremism in Crete and concerns over public safety in urban areas.
