Mitsotakis: A historic moment the agreement with ExxonMobil for drilling in the Ionian

“This is not just another investment. It is the first exploratory drilling in our country in almost 40 years,” the Prime Minister stressed – “We are exploiting our national wealth with planning and vision.”

Newsroom November 6 02:58

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred in his message to the importance of the agreement between ExxonMobil, Energean and HelleniQ Energy for ExxonMobil’s participation in the concession of Block 2 in the Ionian Sea for Greece’s energy security and future.

“Today we are writing a new chapter in Greece’s energy history. ExxonMobil, the American energy giant, is expanding its activity in our country. It already has a presence in two offshore blocks south and southwest of Crete. Today it takes the next big step: it also enters a third block, in the Ionian. With the new agreement, the company commits to proceed to exploratory drilling immediately – a process that can begin within a horizon of 18 months,” the Prime Minister said.

Mitsotakis points out that this is a historic moment, as it is the first drilling in Greece in four decades.

“This is not just another investment. It is the first exploratory drilling in our homeland in almost 40 years. A historic moment. An act of responsibility and perspective,” he said.

“We are implementing our commitment: we are exploiting our national wealth with planning and vision. For a Greece that is energy secure, geopolitically strong and attractive for investment,” he concludes in his message.
