Austrian authorities have discovered weapons in Vienna believed to be linked to Hamas, intended for “potential terrorist attacks in Europe,” according to a government statement on Thursday.
Additionally, according to the Independent, a 39-year-old British man, reportedly “connected to the arsenal,” was arrested in London on Monday.
“Based on the current state of the investigation, the targets of these attacks were likely Israeli or Jewish institutions in Europe,” the statement added. The weapons and the suspect are part of an internationally coordinated investigation led by Austria’s Directorate of State Security and Intelligence (DSN), “targeting a global terrorist organization with ties to Hamas.”
During the investigation, the Austrian intelligence service suspected that a group had brought weapons into Austria for use in potential terrorist attacks in Europe. The weapons, believed to belong to foreign groups linked to Hamas, were found in a suitcase in a warehouse in Vienna and included five pistols and ten magazines.
