Marathon Day today and the traffic police has proceeded to traffic regulations for the conduct of the 42nd Authentic Route in which 24,000 runners will run while another 52,000 are those who took part or will take part in the parallel races such as the 10 km also held today in the center of Athens.
The 10 km race in the center of Athens started at 8:00 and one hour later (9:00) the marathon route started from Marathon.
Apart from the closed roads the traffic police has announced the points from which vertical vehicle crossing is allowed on the avenues affected but also alternative routes for drivers.
The closed roads
• Interruption of vehicle traffic and prohibition of stopping and parking them on Sunday 9-11-2025:
– Marathon Ave, in the section between the starting point and Kato Souli Ave (Agia Marina) and in both (2) traffic directions, from 05.00′ – 13.30′.
– Ag. Paraskevis (former Marathon Machon), in the section between the Tomb of Marathon and Marathon Ave and in both (2) traffic directions, from 05.00′ – 13.30′.
– Kato Souli Ave, in the section between Ag. Athanasiou street and Marathon Ave, from 05.00′ – 10.30′.
– Marathon Ave, in the section between Kato Souli Ave and Dionysou Ave and in both (2) traffic directions, from 07.30′ – 15.00′.
– Marathon Ave, in the section between Dionysou Ave and Lavriou – Kleisthenous (Stavros Agias Paraskevis) and in both (2) traffic directions, from 08.00′ – 16.45′.
– Mesogeion Ave, in the section between Lavriou – Kleisthenous (Stavros Agias Paraskevis) and Katehaki and in both (2) traffic directions, from 08.30′ – 18.30′.
– Dimokratias, in the section between Lofou street up to the National Road Athens Nea Oiou Rafinas/Miltiadou towards Marathon center direction from 05.00′ – 13.30′.
– Chr. Smyrnis, in the section between unnamed road (after Pagkosmias Filias st) and Militou st and in both (2) traffic directions from 05.00′ – 13.30′.
– Spilaiou Panos, and both (2) traffic directions from 12:00 of 8-11-2025 until 13:30 of 9-11-2025.
– Exit branch of Attiki Odos towards Rafina, from 07.00′ – 15.00′.
– Exit branch of Attiki Odos towards Pallini, from 07.00′ – 16.30′.
– Exit 15 Attiki Odos (Marathon Ave) and in both (2) traffic directions, from 08.00′ – 16.00′.
• Interruption of vehicle traffic from 05.00′ until 13.00′ on Sunday 9-11-2025:
– Akadimias, entire length and its perpendiculars up to the first parallel street.
– Vasilissis Amalias Ave, entire length and both (2) traffic directions, as well as its perpendiculars up to the first parallel street.
– Syngrou Ave, in the section between Frantzi street and Vasilissis Amalias Ave and in both (2) traffic directions, as well as its perpendiculars up to the first parallel street.
– Ath. Diakou, entire length and both (2) traffic directions, as well as its perpendiculars up to the first parallel street.
– Ilioupoleos, in section between Ymittou and Karea streets, as well as perpendiculars up to first parallel.
– Karea, entire length both (2) traffic directions, as well as perpendiculars up to first parallel.
– Filellinon, entire length and perpendiculars up to first parallel.
– Stadiou, entire length and perpendiculars up to first parallel.

– Thivon, in section between Mikras Asias and Levadeias, towards Mesogeion.

– Marathon Ave & Agiou Dimitriou – El. Venizelou (Municipality of Pallini – Gerakas).
– Marathon Ave & Patriarchou Grigoriou – Ethnikis Antistaseos (Municipality of Pallini – Gerakas).

– From Zografou – Pangrati – Kaisariani – Vyronas towards Athens city center:
Olof Palme – Kokkinopoulou – Katehaki – Kifisias Ave – Panormou – Alexandras Ave etc.
– From Athens city center towards Southern Suburbs:
Piraeus – Chamosternas – Syngrou Ave – Poseidonos Ave etc. or
Piraeus – Chamosternas – Kallirrois – Vouliagmenis Ave etc.
– From Rafina Port towards Athens, via Artemida (Loutsa):
Rafina Port – left Chr. Smyrnis – right Karamanli Ave – Spaton Ave – right peripheral Dimarchou Chr. Beka – right Spaton Ave – left Theotokopoulou (Olympionikon) and then:
– Towards Chalandri, Vrilissia etc.:
Leontariou junction – right Lavriou Ave – vertical crossing Stavros – Kleisthenous etc.

– From Nea Makri towards Northern Suburbs:
Via Dionysou Ave – Agiou Petrou.
The public transport changes
Due to the conduct of the 42nd Athens Authentic Marathon STASY has proceeded to reinforcement of Metro routes and increase of frequency of train passing with 3 additional trains on each of Metro Lines 2 and 3 and 2 additional trains on Line 1.
At the same time on Tram Line 6 “Pikrodafni – Syntagma”, by order of the Greek Police, the routes will have terminal station at “Fix” stop until 21:00 Sunday night and the stops Syntagma, Zappeion and Vouliagmenis Ave during the above time period will not serve passengers.
There are also temporary modifications of the route of bus lines and trolley lines in Municipalities of the Basin.
