The United States has conveyed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky their plan for ending the war, according to Reuters.
Washington has already asked Zelensky to accept the proposed framework, which includes territorial concessions and the surrender of weapons, two sources familiar with the matter said.
According to sources speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, the proposals also include reducing the size of Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Washington wants Kyiv to accept the main points of the proposal.
According to sources from the Financial Times, the proposal calls for halving the Ukrainian army, delivering certain weapons, and ceding the Donbas region. The same sources reported that Zelensky is disappointed with the plan’s proposals.
The drafting of the plan is reportedly led by Trump’s envoy for Ukraine, Steve Witkoff, who is said to have discussed it extensively with Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev, and it has also been forwarded to Zelensky’s national security advisor, Rustem Umerov.
