Mr Marios Iliopoulos, Head of Strategic Planning and Development at SEAJETS, in his brief speech, noted that greater effort is required both from the state and from all those who are genuinely committed. In this context, he announced SEAJETS’ intention to donate firefighting vehicles to the state, stating:
“As you all know, when there is a small fire outbreak, in the first minute it can be extinguished with a jug of water. If half an hour passes, five or even seven fire engines may be needed. To be fair, quite a lot has been done compared to the past. Many areas have been cleared, and the entire patrol system has changed, which is extremely important for prevention and equally important for surveillance.”
SEAJETS stands by all the islands — around 50 islands — whether or not we provide passenger services. We considered it our great responsibility to do this and we will always stand by you.
“Minister, I state here, in view of today’s presentation and ceremony, that SEAJETS will assist and strengthen your forces by also donating firefighting vehicles.
“We must all apply pressure, each from our own position and in our own way, for even greater effort, for training, for prevention, for firefighting procedures, because we cannot test the country’s resilience and the resilience of the system every summer…”
The event took place at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and focused on the presentation of the projects of the AEGIS programme, which is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund, as well as the review of the 2025 wildfire season.
