Farmers break through police blockade and prepare to set up a roadblock at the Promachonas customs crossing

Where blockades are located – Which roads are closed

Newsroom December 3 12:40

Despite three police buses placed across the road at the Lefkona junction, farmers managed to bypass the blockade by driving their tractors through nearby fields and reaching the road behind the police line.

A new blockade at the Promachonas border crossing is being prepared by farmers — this time from the region of Serres — as shortly before noon, tractors managed to get past the police barrier.

Although the Hellenic Police had positioned three riot-control buses horizontally across the roadway near the Lefkona junction, the farmers drove their tractors through the fields, bypassing the blockade and emerging on the road behind the police.

Tension in Karditsa

There were also clashes earlier in the day at the Karditsa blockade, between farmers and police forces.

Farmers attacked a police vehicle, then withdrew.

Minor incidents in Kiato

Minor scuffles also occurred during today’s demonstration at the Kiato junction.

Tension at the Corinth blockade

Where blockades exist – Which roads are closed

Meanwhile, in Thessaly, the large-scale farmers’ mobilization continues, with blockades set up in multiple locations.

At the Nikaia blockade, more than 1,000 tractors have closed the highway in both directions, causing major traffic disruptions.
In Karditsa, on the E-65 motorway, over 2,000 tractors are lined up, forming a queue stretching more than two kilometers.

A new blockade has been established near the Megalohori junction in Trikala, with the total number of tractors participating in the Thessaly mobilization exceeding 4,000, and the number continues to rise daily.

Lost in degrees: Why Greece produces graduates the market doesn’t need

Due to the blockades:

  • The Athens–Thessaloniki National Highway remains closed at Nikaia.
  • The E-65 motorway in Karditsa is also closed.
  • The Evzoni and Kipoi border crossings are intermittently closing and reopening.

At the Kipoi customs crossing, the suspension of international freight truck traffic continues for a second day and indefinitely. According to the Agricultural and Livestock Association of Alexandroupolis, farmers and livestock breeders have blocked both inbound traffic from Turkey and outbound traffic toward Turkey for international transport trucks.

At the Malgaron tolls on the Thessaloniki–Athens National Highway, farmers from the Delta Municipality and the wider region have kept the Athens-bound lanes closed since December 1st, while the Thessaloniki-bound lanes are periodically opened and closed.
