Neither China nor the USA: The country that dominates the tech world

Far from the US-China rivalry, one country consistently supplies the biggest tech companies with top CEOs

Newsroom December 3 03:32

The country that feeds the top of technology

Why this happens
CEOs hold the most critical role in any major company: they set strategies, define vision, and influence the direction of entire markets. However, something often unnoticed is their common “root.” More and more top CEOs are linked to one specific country: India.

According to data published by the popular World of Statistics account, the majority of leadership executives of large multinational companies are either Indian citizens, have Indian nationality, or come from Indian families.

The country that feeds the top of technology
The list is impressive. At the top is Sundar Pichai of Alphabet/Google, Indian-born, who has led the tech giant since 2015. Following him is Satya Nadella of Microsoft, also of Indian origin, who has transformed the company’s strategy over the past decade.

On the same list is Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, who was born in India. The same applies to IBM’s CEO, Arvind Krishna, while Ajay Banga of the World Bank Group is an Indian-American entrepreneur who took charge of one of the most powerful financial organizations in the world.

Among the names are also Salil Parekh of Infosys, George Kurian of NetApp, and Nikesh Arora of Palo Alto Networks, all with strong Indian roots.

Why this happens
The Indian diaspora is one of the largest and most active worldwide, while the country’s STEM educational system produces a huge number of engineers and highly specialized executives. Added to this is a culture of high adaptability, which helps executives thrive in competitive environments like those in the US.

The result?
India has become a silent but powerful center of technological influence, not because of its own tech giants, but thanks to the human capital that conquers the leadership of the world’s largest companies.
