The recent Cypriot proposal for Olympiacos to use the Spyros Kyprianou Arena as a temporary venue during SEF’s renovation brings to the forefront an interesting solution out of necessity.
The “Spyros Kyprianou” is a modern, recently refurbished indoor arena in Limassol, with a capacity of about 8,000 spectators. It has already hosted games of the recent FIBA EuroBasket 2025. This year’s upgrades—new parquet, improved stands, and modern equipment—have transformed the arena into a facility capable of supporting high-level competitions and comfortably hosting international matchups.
The “invitation” to Olympiacos is not merely about solving a practical issue—finding a home court during SEF’s renovation—but also presents an opportunity to make use of a contemporary arena that has proven it can meet the demands of major events. For Cyprus, the Spyros Kyprianou Arena is regarded as a flagship venue with strong potential: it is not limited to basketball alone, but, as noted by local authorities, could become a pillar for sports development, event hosting, and strengthening the island’s athletic presence abroad.
