According to information, the toddler had been in the yard of the family home shortly after returning from shopping with the parents. The child is believed to have approached the family dog, which—for reasons unknown—suddenly attacked with extreme aggression, causing severe injuries.

Shortly after 13:00, the parents, in a state of panic, called emergency services. The child was rushed to the hospital, but it was already too late; doctors confirmed the child’s death upon arrival.

The child’s father is of Albanian origin, while the mother is British. The couple has been living in Zakynthos for several years.

The local community is deeply shocked. Authorities have already launched an investigation into the circumstances of the attack.

The parents have been taken into custody by the police.
