The creators of Stranger Things have released official recommendations to help fans enjoy the best possible viewing experience for Part 1 of Season 5. In an Instagram video, Matt Duffer detailed which TV settings viewers should use before streaming the new episodes.
“Message before you watch tonight,” Duffer said. “I just want to make sure your TVs are set up correctly,” he added, urging fans to adjust their screens before hitting play.
He noted that TV models vary significantly and proceeded to show how he personally calibrates his own television for optimal clarity, contrast, and color accuracy.
Duffer also warned fans not to activate the “live picture” or “soap opera effect” mode, explaining that it distorts colors and motion. He showed that while his TV’s default option is Dolby Vision Movie, it still disables only some of the settings he recommends changing—so users may need to adjust their presets manually.
In the comments, fans shared their reactions, with many thanking him for the guidance. “Thank you! I knew the graphics were wild this season! I kept wondering what was going on?!” one viewer wrote.
As fans rewatch or newly discover the sci-fi hit ahead of the November 26 premiere of Season 5, all four previous seasons have climbed into Netflix’s Top 10. This marks the first time a Netflix series has had four seasons charting simultaneously.
