The initiative, according to Anestis Karipidis, president of the association of market producers, was meant to support the farmers still at the blockades and to apologize to citizens for the inconvenience caused by the protests.
“We, the market vendors, came to give people a free bag of our products as an apology and a gesture of solidarity. Soon, we might not have access to high-quality Greek products, and we’ll be eating only imported ones,” Karipidis stated, also highlighting the challenges faced by producers and sellers at local markets.
The action began around 5 p.m., coordinated with traffic authorities, and producers planned to distribute approximately one ton of products, including potatoes, lettuce, onions, and more. They even stopped buses to give vegetables to passengers.
