Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast from the early hours of Tuesday (06-01-26) until the early hours of Thursday (08-01-26) across much of the western and northeastern parts of Greece. The rainfall is expected to be not only very intense but also prolonged. In many areas, the severe weather may be accompanied by localized hailstorms and, at times, strong winds reaching 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale.
More specifically, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast as follows:
Tuesday (06-01-26)
a. The Ionian Islands (mainly Corfu, Lefkada, and Kefalonia)
b. Epirus (especially the regional units of Thesprotia, Preveza, Arta in the west, and western Ioannina)
c. Western Central Greece (primarily the regional unit of Aetolia-Acarnania)
d. Eastern Macedonia and Thrace from the afternoon onward (orange warning)
Wednesday (07-01-26)
a. The Ionian Islands (mainly Corfu, Lefkada, and Kefalonia)
b. Epirus (especially the regional units of Thesprotia, Preveza, Ioannina, and Arta)
c. Western Central Greece (primarily the regional unit of Aetolia-Acarnania)
d. Western and southern Peloponnese from the afternoon until late at night (orange warning)
e. Eastern Macedonia and Thrace until late at night (orange warning)
The severe weather is expected to gradually weaken from the morning hours of Thursday (08-01-26). However, unsettled conditions are likely to persist across most parts of the country, with varying local characteristics.
