Greece is competing against Hungary at 18:00 for a place in Sunday’s final and its first-ever medal in the competition.

Coach Thodoris Vlachos’s team has won medals at the Olympics and World Championships, but has never reached the podium at a European Championship.

With a win, Greece advances to the final, securing at least a silver medal, while a loss means playing on Sunday (18:00) in the third-place match against the loser of the Serbia vs Italy game.

Greece is the only undefeated team in the tournament, with 6 wins in 6 group stage matches.

“We believe in our abilities. My players are ready to show their best,” said national coach Thodoris Vlachos. “Our first goal was to reach the final four, and we succeeded. We know the next two games are different, but right now our focus is only on the semifinal. It will be a tough game, and both teams will fight for the win. We have our own weapons, and we are prepared,” he emphasized.

“We know what we have to do,” stressed team captain Dinos Genidounias. “Greece is the only undefeated team in the tournament, but what matters is what happens in the semifinal and then on Sunday. I was in this position ten years ago. It’s a bad feeling when you don’t manage to get a medal. It’s better to finish fifth or sixth,” he said meaningfully, adding:

“We want to continue our successful appearances at the European Championship in Belgrade. We believe in our abilities and will show it in the semifinal against Hungary. We know our opponent has a great tradition in water polo, but I trust my team. We are not afraid of anyone.”
