With chants and flares, creating an atmosphere similar to that at matches of their beloved team, PAOK supporters said “goodbye” to the seven young people who lost their lives in the accident in Romania. This time, however, emotion overflowed, along with the haunting question of “why” this unthinkable tragedy occurred. Earlier, PAOK supporters on their motorcycles had escorted the victims’ bodies to the stadium.

Relatives and friends will say their final farewell tomorrow, Friday, and on Saturday (31/1) to the seven PAOK supporters who breathed their last in the road accident in Romania.

According to voria.gr, the funerals will be held in Thessaloniki, Alexandria of Imathia, and Aronas of Pieria.

The C-130 aircraft carrying the bodies of the seven young people took off from Timișoara, Romania, shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and landed in Thessaloniki shortly after 6:00 p.m.

Just before the aircraft’s departure, a memorial service was held at Timișoara Airport by the local metropolitan bishop, who placed a white rose on each of the seven coffins.

PAOK supporters welcomed the C-130 at Macedonia Airport, after which a motorized procession followed to Toumba Stadium with chants and flares.

As soon as the procession arrived at the stadium, the emotional crowd chanted, among other things, “Immortal” and “Brothers, you live on, you guide us.”

Two injured in stable condition at Papageorgiou Hospital

At the same time, two of the injured from the fatal accident are hospitalized in stable condition at Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki.

The injured, aged 20 and 28, are undergoing examinations. The 20-year-old, Konstantinos, has a head injury and is being treated in the neurosurgery clinic.

The 28-year-old, Marios, is more lightly injured and, according to information, asked to be discharged so he could attend the funerals of supporters of his beloved team. However, doctors did not allow it, and he is hospitalized for precautionary reasons in the surgical clinic.

The two young men traveled in the morning from Romania on a special EKAV (National Emergency Aid Center) aircraft and were transported by ambulances to Papageorgiou Hospital.

By contrast, the third injured supporter of the “Double-Headed Eagle of the North” remained in Romania. After swelling was detected in his neck on Wednesday night, he underwent successful surgery and is still unable to travel by airplane.

The first to leave Timișoara Hospital was the 20-year-old Konstantinos, who was transferred by ambulance to the city’s airport, where he was taken aboard the EKAV aircraft to be brought back to Greece.

The young man’s father had also rushed to the hospital and, visibly moved, said: “He has been hit on the head; he is in shock. Things are not easy, but we are moving toward the better. My condolences to the families of the victims.”

Shortly afterward, the 28-year-old Marios was also discharged from the hospital in Romania, reached the airport by ambulance, and then boarded the EKAV aircraft as well.
