The arrival of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, in Greece was hinted at by the American Ambassador to Athens, Kimberly Guilfoyle, during the official screening yesterday of First Lady Melania Trump’s autobiographical documentary.

As Ambassador Gilfoyle has long belonged to the close circle of the U.S. President’s collaborators, she personally took the initiative for yesterday’s screening. In fact, when asked whether Melania Trump intended to visit Greece due to her friendly ties to the country, the American Ambassador left open the possibility that the Presidential couple could come to Greece, opening the door to an official visit of the “Commander-in-Chief” to the Greek capital.

“I hope she comes (Melania). I know the President will come, and I’m really looking forward to both of them visiting Greece. It will be an incredible honor for the country, yes,” Gilfoyle said, at a time when it is no secret that she enjoys a relationship of trust with the 47th U.S. President.

Speculations and Context

On the other hand, in the context of Gilfoyle’s discussions with American and Greek government officials, there is a widespread impression that the U.S. Ambassador has received the necessary assurances regarding Donald Trump’s arrival in Greece, with only the framework of the visit left to be finalized.

The Scenarios

In this atmosphere, the fact that the U.S. President has taken initiative for the “day after” Gaza in the context of the “Council for Peace” inevitably brings him closer to the Mediterranean. This makes it possible that he might choose Greece as an interim stop, given that Donald Trump’s interest in the Middle East was evident from his first term, while the administration’s goal is a peace regime in the wider region, including considerations regarding Iran.

Alternatively, the U.S. President could combine his visit to Greece with participation in the annual NATO Summit scheduled for July 7–8 in Turkey, as he would not yet have entered the final stage of preparations for the U.S. midterm elections, which traditionally peak in September of the midterm year.
