Use of drinking water banned in 10 villages in Didymoteicho due to flooding

Free bottled water is currently being distributed to cover residents’ basic needs

Newsroom February 2 06:30

The Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of Didymoteicho (DEYAD) has announced a precautionary ban on the use of tap water from local water supply networks in 10 villages in the area.

The decision was taken due to severe flooding affecting the region, with the aim of protecting public health.

The villages affected by the ban are: Doxa, Chionades, Elafochori, Vrysi, Dafni, Sitochori, Asproneri, Vrysika, Giatrades and Savra.

DEYAD Director Nikos Petridis told ERT Orestiada that water samples are being collected today by a certified laboratory in Komotini to determine, through chemical and microbiological testing, whether the water can be safely used.

Until the test results are issued, the use of water from boreholes in the affected settlements is prohibited for drinking, cooking, food preparation and washing food.

In the meantime, DEYAD is distributing free bottled water to meet residents’ needs.
