The measure involves a traffic light that allows a U-turn at Vasilissis Olgas Street, facilitating access toward Plaka

Newsroom February 25 07:00

Essentially, with the new traffic arrangement:

  • Direct access for residents to their homes is improved.
  • Unnecessary traffic around Syntagma Square is reduced.
  • The needless burden on the road network in the city center is limited.

“We are proving in practice that we listen to citizens and provide solutions to issues that affect their daily lives,” said Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, adding: “As of today, the traffic light that allows a U-turn on Amalias Avenue, at the height of Vasilissis Olgas Street, is in operation. This is a substantive intervention that puts an end to a long-standing inconvenience for the residents of Plaka—and not only them. Drivers will no longer need to make the full loop around Syntagma Square. In this way, significant traffic relief will be provided for the city center.”

Concluding, he added: “Athens needs meaningful interventions, both small and large, that make life in the city more functional and more humane.”
