Tom Hanks’ son traveled to Colombia with his Greek passport and can’t return to the US: “Free me”

Tom Hanks’ son says he is stuck in Colombia without a valid passport to return to the U.S. and asked his online followers to “free him.”

Chet Hanks explained via Instagram video that his attempt to avoid potential issues with his American passport led to even bigger complications.

The 35-year-old initially traveled to Puerto Rico for a friend’s birthday and then went to Medellín to visit someone else. He says he brought his Greek passport because his American passport was about to expire.

However, this strategy proved wrong when trying to leave Colombia. At the airport, he was told that because he was traveling with a foreign passport, he needed to show a green card to enter the U.S.

As a U.S. citizen, Chet Hanks does not have a green card, and without his American passport, he couldn’t return. He mentioned that he is in Medellín while the nearest American embassy is in Bogotá.

Although the flight between the two cities takes about an hour, he expressed frustration with the process and ended his post with: “Free me.”
