Santorini: One-year extension for the suspension of building permits for off-plan construction

The decision extends the suspension regime in force from 2021 pending the broader urban and spatial planning for the island

Newsroom March 12 08:05

The suspension of the issuance of building permits in the off-plan areas of Santorini is extended by one year, according to a new decision published in the Government Gazette and signed by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tagaras.

The decision extends the suspension regime in force from 2021 and is valid for an additional year from the expiration of the previous decision and applies exclusively to the off-planned areas of the island as of March 5 published in the Official Gazette.

The measure was originally imposed to limit unregulated off-plan building on tourist islands with strong development pressure. It has since been repeatedly extended by successive decisions of the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
