The repatriation operation codenamed “Ark” was successfully completed, through which around 90 Greek pet owners returned to Greece from Dubai, accompanied by nearly 100 companion animals.

The special Aegean flight, arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, landed at “Eleftherios Venizelos” Airport shortly before, where deeply emotional scenes unfolded, as people and animals arrived together after days of anxiety and uncertainty.

Most of the small four-legged companions were transported in special backpacks and carriers, which their owners kept with them throughout the journey. Dogs and cats—considered family members by many—were taken out of their carriers at the airport, with their owners holding them in their arms, visibly moved. The atmosphere in the terminal was highly emotional.

Some could not hold back their tears, as after a difficult period of uncertainty they managed to return to Greece with their pets by their side. The operation was organized following coordinated efforts to ensure that both passengers and animals could travel safely, in full compliance with all necessary procedures and health checks.

A standout moment of the flight, according to passengers, was the care shown by the Aegean crew toward both the owners and the animals traveling with them.

Niki Tachiaou, owner of one of the four-legged companions that returned to Greece, described her experience saying: “Although there was quite a bit of turbulence, the Aegean staff made both us and our pets feel comfortable. They even gave us souvenirs for our animals.”

For many of the passengers, this return was not just a journey, but a small personal “ark of salvation” for themselves and their four-legged companions.
