The government’s action plan for the implementation of major infrastructure projects, as well as the pivotal role of the construction sector and construction machinery in the country’s development trajectory, were at the center of the address by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, at the opening of the 3rd International Exhibition ERGO.TEC.
“The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is planning and implementing one of the largest action programs in the country’s construction sector. To this end, at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport we are utilizing national, European and private resources, such as our Sectoral Program, the Recovery and Resilience Facility, and private capital through PPPs,” said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas.
He noted that for 2026, resources amounting to €2.36 billion have been scheduled for projects across the country, covering a broad range of interventions, such as road, transport, railway, flood protection, irrigation, and building projects in sectors such as health, education, and justice.
Mr. Dimas made special reference to emblematic projects currently underway, such as the Central Greece E65 motorway, the Northern Road Axis of Crete, the new airport in Kasteli, the metro extensions in Athens and Thessaloniki, the Thessaloniki Elevated Expressway, as well as the restoration of the railway network.
At the same time, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport stated that the contribution of industry professionals and the use of construction machinery are crucial for the timely, safe, and high-quality completion of projects.
Concluding, Mr. Dimas stated: “As the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, we aim to simplify the institutional framework governing construction machinery in our country, providing significant opportunities to companies active in the technical sector. To this end, we are proceeding with the immediate revision of the regulatory framework concerning the type approval of construction machinery, as well as issuing the necessary regulatory framework regarding the periodic technical inspection of such machinery, in view of the implementation of the new European Regulation 2025/14.”
