What is prohibited during quiet hours - Penalties for offenders

The summer quiet hours will be in effect from 1 April 2026 to 30 September 2026, in accordance with Greek police regulations, to ensure public order and the smooth daily life of citizens.

During this period, noise is prohibited between 15:00–17:30 in the afternoon and 23:00–07:00 at night. Winter quiet hours will come into force from 1 October.

What is prohibited during quiet hours

Noisy activities are not allowed during these hours, except for emergency utility work carried out with special permission from the relevant police authority.

Specifically, it is prohibited to:

Use musical instruments, radios, televisions, or other sound devices at high volume

Create loud disturbances, or organize noisy gatherings and events in homes or private spaces

Produce excessive noise in streets, squares, or public transport

In addition, the following are also prohibited:

Noisy games or loud conversations in cafés and public venues

Arguments or disturbances in parking areas

Loading and unloading goods, or operating vehicles that cause excessive noise

Using sirens or other sound systems without a valid emergency reason

Penalties for violations

Disturbing the peace is punishable by up to five months’ imprisonment under the Penal Code. Authorities note that inspections are carried out regularly throughout the summer season.
