The Development Programme and the Management Study (Master Plan) of Patras Port were approved, with the issuance of the relevant Presidential Decree, which is a decisive step for the upgrading of one of the most important ports of the country.

The new framework defines the way the port will be developed, with clear provisions for land use, infrastructure projects, traffic, and environmental licensing.

This approval is the result of a long process, in which the Patras Port Authority S.A. had a significant contribution, both in the planning and in the preparation of the necessary studies and approvals.

The Master Plan emphasizes the strengthening of freight activity and international connections, the improvement of coastal shipping and passenger services, as well as the development of tourism with modern infrastructure, such as the marina in the North Port. At the same time, it provides for energy infrastructure, such as LNG facilities and the strengthening of rail connections.

Particular emphasis is placed on the South Port, which will become a key centre of freight and energy activity, while the North Port will be developed for tourism, passenger and urban uses.

The new plan creates a stable framework for investment and enhances the prospect of creating new jobs, incorporating the provisions of European and national environmental legislation, with a view to the sustainable operation of the port.

The approval is part of the overall planning for the upgrading of the country’s ports and the strengthening of their role as gates of development, interconnection, and energy presence of Greece in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, said that “the approval of the Master Plan of the Port of Patras opens the way for further development, investments, and new jobs. We are boosting freight activity, upgrading shipping and services to citizens, and proceeding with the construction of modern tourism and energy infrastructure.

The plan is part of the overall planning of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, aiming to modernize and strengthen the role of ports in the country’s development course.”
