Donald Trump said he is “not willing” to make any concessions to Tehran, following Iran’s latest response regarding talks for a peace agreement.

Speaking to the New York Post on Monday, he said that Iran knows “what is going to happen soon” and appeared to shut the door on Iran’s proposal, made yesterday, for diplomatic talks.

Regarding his statement on Friday that he would be willing to accept a 20-year suspension of uranium enrichment by Iran, Trump clarified that “I’m not open to anything right now,” without providing further details.

“I really can’t talk to you about that. Too many things are happening,” he said.

In addition, Trump stated that he does not feel disappointed and made clear that Iran knows very well that the United States can inflict even greater “pain” on it.

“I can tell you that they want to make a deal more than ever, because they know what is going to happen soon,” Trump told the American newspaper.

When asked whether Iran would wait for Washington regarding the nuclear issue and the matter of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said that “he had not heard that” and remarked that “it is — I don’t want to sound foolish.”

After returning from his trip to China, Trump reportedly spent the weekend in meetings with his national security team. New meetings are expected on Tuesday, as hardline allies such as Senator Lindsey Graham are urging Trump to resume military operations against Iran, as diplomacy appears to have reached a deadlock.
