Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou referred to the implementation of a ban on the use of electric scooters by minors.
Speaking to Action24, he emphasized that fake digital copies of ID cards — which, according to complaints, are being used by minors — are no longer recognized as valid identification documents. He added that the Kids Wallet app is used for age verification through a process that, for the time being, cannot be bypassed.
Responding to a question about whether the same application could be used to prevent minors from using electric scooters, he said that this is indeed the goal.
“This is exactly what we discussed with the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Ministry of Transport,” Papastergiou initially noted, adding:
“This age-verification mechanism will also be used on social media. It is already being used for the sale of alcohol and tobacco products, and it will also be applied to scooters.”
The Digital Governance Minister further explained that electric scooter users “will be required to complete an age verification scan and, if the criterion is not met, the scooters will not unlock.”
