The Greek Police are being placed on heightened operational readiness ahead of the exodus of travelers for the Pentecost and Holy Spirit long weekend, aiming to ensure the safe movement of citizens and prevent traffic accidents across the national road network.
According to the Hellenic Police, the enhanced traffic policing measures will be implemented from Friday, May 29 through Monday, June 1, 2026, as particularly heavy vehicle traffic is expected toward popular destinations around the country.
The Traffic Police plan includes intensive checks at the entrances and exits of major urban centers, as well as an increased police presence at airports, ports, stations, and areas where there is a high risk of traffic accidents.
At the same time, targeted traffic checks will be carried out at rotating points across the road network, with emphasis on dangerous violations such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, mobile phone use while driving, failure to use seat belts and helmets, and illegal overtaking.
The Hellenic Police stress that checks will be continuous and strict throughout the four-day period, while both personnel and operational resources of the Traffic Police will remain on full alert to immediately address any incidents or traffic problems.
In addition, traffic bans for trucks with a maximum permitted weight exceeding 3.5 tons will come into effect, aiming to facilitate traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents during peak hours.
The Greek Police are urging drivers to show responsibility and caution during their travels by adhering to the Highway Code, avoiding alcohol consumption before driving, and always using seat belts and helmets.
Special emphasis is also being placed on child safety through the use of child seats, as well as on the necessary technical inspection of vehicles before every trip.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” the Hellenic Police underline, noting that every decision made behind the wheel can have serious consequences both for drivers themselves and for other users of the road network.
