As the evidence appears to show, the two doctors, Ioanna Gaka and her husband, Ilias Theodoropoulos, attempted to obscure the events and distance themselves from any responsibility for the death of the popular singer. The evidence indicates that the plasma-apheresis procedure had in fact begun, that they took a photograph of him while he was unconscious, and that they subsequently attempted to delete incriminating evidence.

Ioanna Gaka, who, according to the Mazonakis family’s lawyer, holds a degree from Hawaii, photographed the singer after he had suffered cardiac arrest. She sent the photograph to her husband, who was having coffee at a café in Kolonaki, and deleted the image before going to the police. However, police officers managed to recover it from her phone.

The sequence of events

On the fateful day of September 9, Giorgos Mazonakis arrived at the Stem Cell clinic at 11 Karneadou Street in Kolonaki at 13:55, according to the testimony of the taxi driver who transported him.

As has already been established by documentary photographic evidence, the singer had begun the procedure, which lasted 42 minutes.

At 14:14:10, the machine began operating and stopped at 14:57:00.

At 14:45:22, Gaka took a photograph of Mazonakis while he was unconscious. His eyes were closed; he was wearing a yellow short-sleeved T-shirt and had an IV catheter inserted in his right arm and, apparently, also in his left. He was covered with a blanket from the waist down. His head was turned to the right and his eyes were closed.

At 14:57:00, the machine was switched off.

Ioanna Gaka sent the photograph and a message to her husband, who at that time was at a café in Kolonaki. He left in a hurry and returned to the clinic.

Digital evidence puts doctor in the spotlight

As the doctor later told the paramedics, he administered an adrenaline injection and performed CPR on Mazonakis.

16:21: The emergency call was made to the National Emergency Aid Centre (EKAB).

16:24: The first EKAB paramedic arrived. The ambulance subsequently arrived and transported Mazonakis to Elpis Hospital, where he arrived at 16:45.

17:40: The singer’s death was pronounced at Elpis Hospital.

19:09:13: Gaka deleted the photograph of Mazonakis from her phone before being taken to the police.

19:45: The couple arrived at the Kypseli Police Station.
