62 year old woman arrested for fire in Aegina

The 62 year old caused the fire during burning waste in the yard of her house and burned 20 acres of farmland - She was fined 7.129 euros as she is a repeat offender for a similar incident last year

The arrest of a 62-year-old woman has been made by authorities for fire by negligence that broke out today in the area of Mesargos in Aegina.

As it was known by the Fire Department, according to the evidence, the 62-year-old woman caused the fire while burning waste in the yard of her house, resulting in the fire spreading to an adjacent agricultural land.

The fire burned approximately 20 acres of farmland.

According to the Fire Department, the competent firefighting forces were immediately mobilized, which quickly brought the fire under control, while the Fire Department’s investigative services were immediately mobilized and proceeded to investigate its causes.

After the preliminary investigation and after contacting the competent prosecutor of Piraeus, a case file was formed and the culprit was arrested under the self-incrimination procedure.

At the same time, the process of imposing the prescribed administrative sanctions was initiated, with the amount of the administrative fine amounting to 7,129 euros, since, as was known by the Fire Department, the culprit is guilty of a similar incident in the previous year.

As stressed by the Fire Brigade, the Fire Brigade’s IAFE and investigative services remain in heightened operational readiness, carrying out continuous checks and proceeding directly to the attribution of responsibility in cases of violations of the applicable legislation.
