The brutal murder of a 39-year-old mother of two in Kalamata, revealed on June 1, has shocked the country. Her 41-year-old husband has confessed to the killing.

A particularly tragic aspect of the case is that the couple’s two children, aged 6 and 10, were inside the apartment at the time of the crime, sleeping in a neighboring room.

According to current information, the children did not realize what happened during the murder, a fact that has raised serious questions and become a central focus of the investigation.

Toxicology tests for the children

Authorities are expected to conduct toxicology tests to determine whether the children may have been given a substance that could explain why they remained in a deep sleep until late morning. Reports indicate that they were even transported to the hospital while still asleep.

The children are expected to be informed of their mother’s death with the assistance of a child psychologist and in the presence of the victim’s sister, to ensure they receive appropriate psychological support.

Statements collected so far indicate that the children had witnessed many arguments between their parents.

Timeline of the crime

The tragedy came to light shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Monday when local residents called police, reporting loud screams and cries for help from a woman inside an apartment building.

Police arrived quickly and were told by neighbors that the screams had stopped just minutes before officers reached the scene. They knocked on the apartment door and asked the occupant to open it.

According to reports, the 41-year-old husband answered the door with visible bloodstains on his clothing.

During a search of the apartment, officers found the 39-year-old woman dead in the bedroom. The man was immediately arrested and later confessed during questioning.

What the 41-year-old claims

According to police sources, the suspect claimed he believed his wife was having an extramarital affair, although there is no evidence that this was true.

He reportedly told investigators:

“I woke up and saw her standing over me holding a knife. We struggled, I managed to take the knife from her, and I killed her.”

He also reportedly stated that the couple frequently had intense arguments.

However, investigators point to a detail that appears to undermine his claim that he acted in self-defense.

According to police sources cited by ANT1, the man had no defensive wounds. Investigators consider it highly likely that after the killing he placed the knife in the victim’s hand in an attempt to stage the crime scene and support his version of events.
